Djibouti
Djibouti · East Africa
Djibouti sits at the mouth of the Red Sea where it meets the Gulf of Aden, creating a remarkable convergence of marine ecosystems. The country is best known for its seasonal whale shark aggregations at Arta Beach — one of the most reliable and accessible whale shark encounters on earth, drawing the giants from November through February. Beyond the headline attraction, Djibouti offers pristine reef walls, seagrass beds sheltering dugongs, and a diving scene so underdeveloped that most sites see only a handful of visitors per year. The combination of healthy hard corals, strong pelagic throughput, and near-zero dive pressure makes this one of the most compelling frontier destinations on the African coast.
