Reef sharks are permanent residents of the Abrolhos outer reefs, cruising along drop-offs and coral walls in small groups. They play a vital role in maintaining the health of the reef ecosystem by controlling populations of mid-level predators and keeping reef fish communities balanced. Encounters are typically relaxed, with sharks showing little concern for divers.
