Underwater at Delma Island Reef

Delma Island Reef

Abu Dhabi · United Arab Emirates

Delma Island, located in the far west of Abu Dhabi emirate, is surrounded by some of the most pristine natural coral reefs in the UAE, partly preserved by its distance from the capital and restricted development. The reefs harbour dense populations of hawksbill turtles that nest on the island's beaches and feed on the abundant sponges growing on the coral heads. Dugong are seen here more regularly than anywhere else in UAE waters, grazing the seagrass beds that fringe the island.
