Large cuttlefish hover in mid-water above the reef at night, their chromatophores cycling through hypnotic patterns as they stalk small fish with extraordinary precision. They are among the most intelligent invertebrates on the reef and individuals have been observed to remember the location of hiding prey and return to the same spot hours later. Night dives at Zirku regularly produce sightings of multiple individuals hunting simultaneously in the torch light, their displays creating a mesmerising natural light show.
