Filicudi Wall
Aeolian Islands · Italy
The western wall of Filicudi plunges from the surface into deep blue water through a stunning sequence of ledges, overhangs, and sea caves carpeted in red and orange gorgonian fans and multi-coloured sponge gardens. Loggerhead turtles are regular visitors to the deeper sections of the wall, and sperm whales are occasionally spotted on the surface during the crossing from Milazzo — a reminder of how genuinely wild the waters around Filicudi remain. This is one of the most remote and undived walls in the Aeolian chain, rewarding those willing to make the journey.
