Turtle Rock Wall
Aldabra Atoll · Seychelles
Turtle Rock is a limestone pinnacle on Aldabra's southern outer reef where a vertical wall drops from 3 metres to 40 metres and beyond. The site takes its name from the extraordinary density of green turtles that rest in crevices and graze on the algae covering the rock face — sightings of a dozen or more turtles in a single dive are routine. The wall itself is a tapestry of hard coral, tube sponge, and large barrel sponge, with hawksbill turtles joining their green cousins at the cleaning stations. Below 25 metres the reef transitions to a rubble slope where whitetip reef sharks rest in loose groups, and the occasional tiger shark has been documented cruising the base.
