Ponta da Piedade
Algarve · Portugal
The golden limestone stacks of Ponta da Piedade near Lagos extend beneath the surface as a dramatic labyrinth of arches, sea caves, and vertical walls dropping to 20 metres, all colonised by cold-water anemones, sea slugs, and dense curtains of violet sponges. This is the Algarve's most visually spectacular dive site, combining the iconic topography familiar from the kayaking tours above with an entirely different world below — one rich in spider crabs, cuttlefish in the shallows, and large conger eels in the arch tunnels. The sheltered bay allows diving even on days when the open coast is unsettled, extending the season toward shoulder months.
