Ambon Pinnacle
Ambon Bay · Indonesia
Ambon Pinnacle is a submerged rock formation rising from 30 meters to 12 meters below the surface in the middle of the bay, its summit and flanks covered in a dense layer of soft corals, whip corals, and crinoids that attract an enormous diversity of associated species. Schools of batfish, lionfish clusters, and Ambon's most reliably encountered wobbegong sharks all congregate around this single structure. The pinnacle's isolation in open water means current can strike from any direction, bringing occasional pelagic surprises that contrast with the bay's otherwise sheltered character.
