Japanese Wreck Jemeluk
Amed & Jemeluk Bay · Indonesia
A small Japanese fishing boat resting on its side in 10 to 14 metres of water at the eastern edge of Jemeluk Bay, thickly coated in soft corals, encrusting sponges, and wispy hydroids. The hull is intact enough to provide shelter for a resident lionfish pair, a large moray eel, and several species of scorpionfish that blend almost perfectly into the encrusted metal. Macro photographers find the wreck's surface exceptionally productive — flabellina nudibranchs, skeleton shrimp on the hydroids, and Coleman shrimp are reliably present. The shallow depth allows long bottom times and the site works perfectly as a second dive paired with the coral garden.
