Nassau grouper are emblematic of Caribbean reef health and the Andros barrier reef supports one of the more robust populations remaining in the Bahamas. These large, charismatic fish hold territory in coral heads and ledges on the upper wall, occasionally gathering in spawning aggregations at channel mouths during winter full moons. Their recovery here reflects decades of reduced fishing pressure along the protected reef tract.
