Underwater at North Channel

North Channel

Ant Atoll · Micronesia

The North Channel is the main pass connecting the Ant Atoll lagoon to open ocean and the site that concentrates the atoll's most impressive pelagic action. Incoming tides funnel baitfish and plankton through the channel, drawing grey reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, and occasional silvertip sharks that patrol the current lines. Napoleon wrasse cruise the coral heads at the channel edges, and eagle rays are a regular sight on most dives. The channel walls are carpeted in hard and soft corals in exceptional condition, a reflection of the minimal fishing and dive pressure the atoll receives.
