Fast-moving schools of bonito streak past the cape's exposed seaward faces during spring and autumn migrations, following sardine and anchovy aggregations that concentrate around the headland's upwelling current. They are pelagic predators that rarely pause, creating brief but electrifying encounters as they accelerate through the diver's field of view at speed. Spring brings the densest aggregations when the cape acts as a waypoint on their northward migration route.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
