Monte da Guia
Azores — Faial and Pico · Portugal
Monte da Guia is a twin volcanic crater peninsula on the southeastern tip of Faial, where the submerged caldera walls drop vertically into water at 25 to 40 metres, encrusted with the dense cold-water invertebrate life that defines Azorean reefs. Walls of yellow cluster anemones and red soft corals are patrolled by enormous grouper and amberjack, while the sheltered lagoon inside the crater gives shorebound divers an accessible introduction to Azorean marine life.
