Large schools of bumphead parrotfish shelter in the lee of the wreck overnight and graze the encrusted superstructure at first light. Their biting action chips away coral-covered steel, accelerating the wreck's transformation into an artificial reef. At Amed they are habituated to divers and approachable to within arm's length before dawn light triggers their departure.
