Underwater at Dutch Bay Wrecks

Dutch Bay Wrecks

Batticaloa · Sri Lanka

The shallow waters of Dutch Bay south of Batticaloa lagoon conceal several historic wrecks from the colonial era and World War II, lying in 8 to 22 metres of water and now heavily encrusted with hard and soft corals. These are accessible, recreational-depth wreck dives ideal for Open Water-certified divers, with dramatic rusted structural iron emerging from coral growth and dense aggregations of fusiliers, batfish, and glassfish treating the wrecks as permanent home. The bay's sheltered aspect provides diveable conditions even when northeast swells make the open ocean sites untenable, making Dutch Bay Wrecks the reliable fallback dive of any Batticaloa itinerary.
