Cueva de los Peces
Bay of Pigs · Cuba
A flooded sea cave — 'Cave of the Fish' — that descends from a surface pool through a twilight cavern colonised by thousands of small reef fish seeking refuge from open-water predators. The cave connects to the sea below 10 m, creating a mixing zone where freshwater seeps and saltwater meet and support extraordinary invertebrate richness on every surface. Shafts of sunlight penetrate the opening and illuminate the fish cloud in shades of gold, making this one of the most photographed natural features along the Zapata Peninsula coast.
