North Point
Bazaruto Archipelago · Mozambique
North Point marks the exposed northern tip of Bazaruto Island where the lagoon's protected interior meets the open Mozambique Channel, creating a convergence zone that aggregates plankton, baitfish, and the pelagic hunters that follow them — including hammerhead sharks, sailfish, and large pods of spinner dolphins that sometimes descend to investigate divers. The reef here is steep-sided, dropping sharply into indigo water on the channel face and transitioning to rubble and hard coral gardens on the lagoon side, meaning divers can choose between exhilarating drift diving on the outer wall and slower, more methodical exploration of the sheltered interior. Between July and September, when cold upwellings push in from the south, whale sharks occasionally appear along the point's outer face.
