Cubera snappers reaching over 1 metre in length patrol Canhabaque's reef walls in groups, hunting fish and large crustaceans with the confidence of an apex predator in an unfished environment. They aggregate in predictable locations on the deeper reef structure, particularly around large coral heads and overhangs where prey can be ambushed. Canhabaque is one of the few locations in the Atlantic where cubera snappers can be regularly seen in groups of 10 or more, a density that reflects the reef's pristine condition.

Cubera Snapper is listed as a curated species here based on historical reports.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
