Cap Serrat Posidonia

Dive site

Cap Serrat, midway between Bizerte and Tabarka along Tunisia's northern coast, protects one of the Mediterranean's healthiest remaining posidonia oceanica meadows. The meadow extends from 2 metres to its photosynthetic depth limit at 35 metres, the mat providing nursery habitat for juvenile sea bream, wrasse, and mullet in extraordinary abundance. Cuttlefish lay their eggs in the posidonia fronds from March through May in large communal aggregations. Long-snouted seahorses cling to posidonia shoots at mid-depth. The meadow edge drops away to open sand where common stingrays rest. The site is ideal for underwater naturalists and macro photographers and suits all certification levels in its shallower zones.
