Nurse sharks rest in the sandy channels between Ervatão's reef spurs from late morning through afternoon, often stacked two or three deep under low overhangs where the current is minimal. They are entirely unbothered by divers at this site and allow close approach, making them one of the most photographable large elasmobranchs in Cape Verde. At dusk they become active and patrol the rubble zones at the base of the reef to hunt crustaceans and small fish.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
