Mediterranean Moray

Mediterranean morays reach impressive sizes at Karaada, with individuals over a metre long commonly encountered resting in the basalt crevices warmed by geothermal activity. They are principally nocturnal predators of fish and cephalopods but are reliably visible during day dives due to the density of dens in the volcanic substrate. Their presence alongside cleaner wrasse at dedicated cleaning stations on the reef wall is a highlight of the dive.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
