Manado Tua Wall
Bunaken National Park — Outer Islands · Indonesia
The eastern and southern flanks of Manado Tua's extinct volcanic cone plunge vertically from 5 m down to beyond 60 m, draped in enormous sea fans and black coral trees. Napoleon wrasse are resident and reliably seen cruising the wall edge. Dense schools of great barracuda hover at the blue-water interface. Pygmy seahorses (Hippocampus bargibanti) live in the sea fans at 25 to 35 m. The volcanic substrate supports some of the most structurally complex hard coral at depth in the entire park.
