RMS Rhone

Dive site

The RMS Rhone went down in an 1867 hurricane off Salt Island and has since grown into one of the Caribbean's most decorated wreck dives. The 310-foot Royal Mail steamer lies in two sections: the bow sits at 24 metres, the stern at 8, so the dive works for beginners and experienced wreck hunters in the same water. Brightly coloured encrusting sponges and cup corals now cover almost every surface. Featured in the 1977 film The Deep, the Rhone is BVI's most iconic dive by a wide margin.
