Jigdup Reef
Camiguin · Philippines
Jigdup Reef sits off the western shore of Camiguin and is the island's premier wall dive, a vertical drop from 5 metres to beyond 40 that is carpeted in sea fans, black coral trees, and massive sponges. Strong upwellings from the deeper water regularly push nutrient-rich cold patches through the site, which draws grey reef sharks, dogtooth tuna, and large schools of big-eye trevally. Whale sharks are occasionally sighted in the channel between Camiguin and the mainland from November through April. The topside volcanic scenery — Hibok-Hibok and four other volcanic peaks visible above the tree line — adds a dimension that few dive sites can match.
