Mantigue Island Marine Sanctuary
Camiguin · Philippines
Mantigue Island is a small coral atoll to the northeast of Camiguin protected as a marine sanctuary, and the protection shows in the reef condition. Hard coral cover is dense and largely intact, with table corals, staghorn colonies, and brain corals in sizes rarely seen in unprotected areas. Sea turtles — both green and hawksbill — are resident and approachable. The sandy seagrass patches between the reef and the beach are consistent hunting grounds for blue-spotted ribbontail rays. The shallow plateau at 6 to 12 metres is ideal for multiple dives per day, and the outer slope drops to 25 metres along a wall that supports schools of fusiliers and hunting trevally.
