Sunken Cemetery
Camiguin · Philippines
One of the Philippines' most iconic dive sites, the Sunken Cemetery marks where an 1871 volcanic eruption submerged a coastal village and its graveyard beneath the sea. A large white cross on the surface marks the spot, and beneath it coral-encrusted headstones and rubble spread across a sloping reef from 3 to 18 metres. Lionfish and scorpionfish rest among the coral heads, moorish idols and butterflyfish move in loose pairs, and the occasional guitar shark rests on sand patches at depth. The combination of dramatic historical context and genuine coral health makes this one of the most memorable easy dives in Mindanao.
