Miller's Point
Cape Point & Cape Peninsula · South Africa
Miller's Point on the eastern shore of the Cape Peninsula is the most accessible cold-water dive site on the False Bay coast and the best place in South Africa to reliably encounter broadnose sevengill sharks. These large, prehistoric-looking sharks — reaching up to 3 metres — congregate in the sandy amphitheatre at the base of the granite boulders through autumn and winter, sometimes in groups of eight or more. The surrounding reef is draped in pink coralline algae, kelp, and sea bamboo, sheltering red roman, klipfish, and pyjama catsharks. Octopus are abundant in the boulder crevices and the site's relative shallowness makes it ideal for long, cold dives. The entry and exit are shore dives from a concrete slipway.
