Playa Blanca Reef
Cartagena / Rosario Islands · Colombia
Playa Blanca Reef sits in the shallows off Barú Peninsula's famous white sand beach, a long fringing reef platform that makes it one of the easiest entry points into Colombian Caribbean diving. Coral heads of brain, mustard hill, and fire coral support dense populations of sergeant majors, stoplight parrotfish, and banded butterflyfish. Southern stingrays bury in sandy patches between coral heads and are regularly encountered at close range. The site is excellent for snorkellers and new divers — depths rarely exceed 12 metres on the main terrace — while experienced divers explore the reef edge where small reef sharks appear in the late afternoon.
