Yellowtail snappers form conspicuous, loose aggregations of dozens to hundreds of individuals around the Tibbetts superstructure, their vivid yellow lateral stripe and forked yellow tail making identification effortless. They are opportunistic carnivores that feed on small fish, zooplankton, and invertebrates, often following divers in hopes of catching prey items disturbed by exhaled bubbles. As site familiarisers they provide ecological continuity — their aggregations indicate a healthy prey base supporting the wreck's broader food web.
