Chac Mool
Riviera Maya Cenotes · Mexico
Cavern dive in the Riviera Maya cenote system near Puerto Aventuras, linking three sinkholes — Chac Mool, Kukulkan, and Little Brother — through flooded limestone passages. At midday, shafts of sunlight pour through the jungle fringed entrance and rake across the cavern floor in laser sharp beams. Divers cross a halocline near 14 m, where freshwater meets denser saltwater in an oily, vision warping blur, then surface inside an air dome beneath a collapsed ceiling hung with stalactites. Max depth 14 m, no current, water near 25°C year round.
