Overview

Cavern dive in the Riviera Maya cenote system near Puerto Aventuras, linking three sinkholes — Chac Mool, Kukulkan, and Little Brother — through flooded limestone passages. At midday, shafts of sunlight pour through the jungle-fringed entrance and rake across the cavern floor in laser-sharp beams. Divers cross a halocline near 14 m, where freshwater meets denser saltwater in an oily, vision-warping blur, then surface inside an air dome beneath a collapsed ceiling hung with stalactites. Max depth 14 m, no current, water near 25°C year-round.

Briefing note

Cavern-trained guide required; stay on the line — no penetration past the daylight zone without full cave certification. Light beams are strongest on clear, sunny days around midday in late spring and summer when the sun is high. The deeper cave system beyond the cavern circuit is for cave-certified divers only.
