Betty Bomber (Eten Island)
Chuuk Lagoon Inner Wrecks · Federated States of Micronesia
A Mitsubishi G4M Type 1 land-based attack bomber — Allied designation Betty — rests in the shallows off Eten Island airstrip with its fuselage intact at 4 to 14 metres of water, making it one of Chuuk's shallowest and most photogenic wreck dives. Both radial engines remain in place on the wings, the cockpit glass is still present, and the tail section extends to within 2 metres of the surface. The wreck is heavily colonised by hard and soft coral with glassfish sheltering under the wings. The shallow depth allows long bottom times and makes the Betty Bomber an ideal second or third dive on a liveaboard day.
