Hoki Maru
Chuuk Lagoon Inner Wrecks · Federated States of Micronesia
The Hoki Maru is a 137-metre cargo ship resting upright with its deck at 23 metres and keel at 42 metres, notable as Chuuk's premier night dive wreck. After dark, the superstructure comes alive with bioluminescent plankton, hunting lionfish, moray eels emerging from engine room passages, and Spanish dancer nudibranchs on the hull exterior. The day dive offers tractors, bulldozers, and mining equipment loaded in the holds, a bow gun, and a stern anti-aircraft gun that has become a coral garden. The bridge and officers quarters are penetrable and in remarkably good condition with instruments still at their stations.
