Sankisan Maru
Chuuk Lagoon Inner Wrecks · Federated States of Micronesia
The Sankisan Maru is a 103-metre armed cargo freighter resting upright on a sandy bottom with its deck at 16 metres and keel at 40 metres, making it one of Chuuk's most diver-accessible wrecks. The hold is fully open and still loaded with trucks, ammunition boxes, torpedo warheads, and military equipment exactly as it sank in Operation Hailstone in February 1944. A Zero fighter aircraft fuselage lies on the deck near the bow. The superstructure is draped in black coral trees and encrusting sponges, and the wheelhouse accommodates penetration by recreational divers with a torch. Schools of glassfish fill the hold entrances.
