Direction Island Drift
Cocos (Keeling) Islands · Australia
The northern tip of Direction Island funnels Indian Ocean currents through a shallow passage, creating one of the atoll's most exhilarating drift dives. Scalloped hammerheads, grey reef sharks, and silvertip sharks patrol the current seam while schools of bigeye trevally and fusiliers sweep past in dense columns. Coral coverage on the shallow plateau is among the best-preserved in the territory.
