Underwater at Hon Cau Turtle Bay

Hon Cau Turtle Bay

Con Dao · Vietnam

Hon Cau's sheltered northern bay is Con Dao's most reliable turtle encounter site — a gently sloping reef to 20 meters where green and hawksbill turtles rest on coral bommies and graze on seagrass at the reef base in numbers that reflect decades of national park nesting protection. The site's shallow profile and consistent calm conditions inside the bay make it appropriate for all certification levels, while the outer reef edge adds current-driven pelagic sightings including barracuda schools and trevally. Nesting season from May to September brings nesting females ashore at night on the adjacent beach, making overnight liveaboard stops particularly significant.
