Hawksbill turtles are a daily presence at Hon Tai, feeding on sponges and soft corals on the reef crest while moving between feeding and resting areas on a predictable schedule that experienced guides use to position divers for close encounters. Con Dao's nesting beaches are among the most important hawksbill nesting sites in Vietnam, and the underwater population reflects decades of national park protection. Their narrow beaks allow access to sponges deep within reef crevices, making them unique specialists in extracting food sources unavailable to other reef herbivores.
