Glassfish

Ambassis gymnocephalus

Sighting evidence at Okikawa Maru, Coron

Millions of glassfish form shimmering silver clouds inside the Okikawa's holds and between its superstructure, filtering plankton from the water column in a perpetual synchronized swirl. The dense shoals serve as a critical food source for the trevally, barracuda, and snappers that patrol the wreck's perimeter and periodically charge through the baitball. Their translucent bodies and schooling behavior are one of the most photogenic spectacles in Coron diving.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
