Oriental sweetlips patrol the Okikawa's holds in small groups, using their thick fleshy lips to pick invertebrates from crevices and sandy patches around the wreck's base. Juveniles display a bold spotted pattern that shifts to stripes and then to the adult's characteristic white-and-black banding, a transformation that also accompanies a shift from solitary to group behavior. Their nighttime feeding activity intensifies, making the Okikawa a rewarding site for torchlit dives.
