Schools of barracuda gather around Scandola's rocky pinnacles from late spring through autumn, hunting in coordinated bursts against the blue water. Juveniles school in the hundreds in the shallows, while larger adults form smaller, more purposeful hunting packs. Their silver flanks catch the Mediterranean light in spectacular fashion at mid-water depths.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
