Cape Stavros Wall
Crete · Greece
Cape Stavros on Crete's northwestern tip plunges vertically into 45 m of crystal Cretan Sea water, its entire face etched by a current-swept channel that concentrates plankton and drives exceptional biodiversity for a Mediterranean site. From the surface down to 30 m the wall is textured with crimson and gold sea fans, brittle stars draped over every ledge, and patches of black coral at 35 m that mark the beginning of the wall's deepest accessible section. Mild drift conditions typical of the cape push divers along the wall with minimal fin effort, offering an effortless glide past the densest concentration of invertebrate life on Crete's accessible coast.
