Pipin Wall
Jardines de la Reina · Cuba
Pipin Wall is Jardines de la Reina's only true vertical wall dive, dropping from a coral-capped reef crest at 10 m into open water beyond 60 m. The wall face is covered in extraordinary density of deepwater gorgonians, orange cup corals, and black coral colonies — species that would be heavily harvested in most accessible Caribbean locations but here remain pristine under the national park regime. Silky sharks are the dominant pelagic at this site, outnumbering Caribbean reef sharks, and their bold investigative behaviour in open water beside the wall makes for extraordinary wide-angle photography. The outgoing tidal current accelerates down the wall face and can demand active swimming to hold position below 30 m.
