Underwater at Akamas Marine Park Reef

Akamas Marine Park Reef

Dive site

The Akamas Peninsula is Cyprus's only designated marine park and one of the least-dived stretches of Cypriot coastline. Rocky reefs run from the shoreline down to 30 metres in water that is notably clearer than the southern coast. Green sea turtles nest on the peninsula's beaches and regularly graze the seagrass beds just below the surf zone — encounters on the reef are common. Gorgonians and yellow encrusting sponges carpet the deeper sections; endemic Cypriot blennies and chromis dart between boulders in the shallows.
