The Canyon
Dahab · Egypt
The Canyon is a spectacular underwater gorge that cuts deep into the Dahab reef, an elongated crack in the coral limestone that narrows as you descend before opening into an extraordinary cathedral of rock and coral at 52 m. You enter through a sandy garden at the reef top, then drop into the slot and follow its sculpted walls down past coral fans and encrusting sponges. The light funnels in from above in shifting beams and the silence is profound. At depth the canyon opens onto the outer wall and you ascend slowly along a coral face alive with anthias and butterflyfish. This is one of the finest and most atmospheric dives anywhere in the Red Sea.
