Le Lagon

Dive site

A sheltered lagoon protected by the Îles de la Madeleine National Marine Park, just offshore from central Dakar. Coral gardens of brain coral, gorgonian fans, and encrusting sponges grow across a gently sloping volcanic substrate from 5 to 22 metres. West African endemic reef fish including Dakar damselfish, Guinea surgeonfish, and Atlantoraja castelnaui share the reef with octopus, moray eels, and large pufferfish. The site is well suited to night dives, when Spanish dancers and large crustaceans emerge from crevices.
