SS Empire Trumpet

Dive site

A British cargo vessel sunk in 1943 during World War II, resting upright on a sandy bottom at 28 to 36 metres off the northern peninsula. The 130-metre hull is heavily encrusted with black coral, large barrel sponges, and sea fans, and is consistently one of the most intact WWII wrecks on the West African coast. Sand tiger sharks shelter in the holds during the cooler months while large grouper, barracuda, and African pompano patrol the superstructure. The engine room and cargo holds are safely penetrable with a torch.
