Underwater at Grouper Garden

Grouper Garden

Dive site

A series of low limestone ridges and boulders between 8 and 28 metres, immediately west of Derna harbour, has become a gathering point for an unusually high density of dusky grouper and Mediterranean grouper — fish that reach 60 to 80 centimetres and behave with a boldness rarely seen in more visited Mediterranean waters. The ridges are interspersed with sand channels where garden eels emerge from burrows and eagle rays pass through on seasonal transits. Cuttlefish hunt across the boulders from April through October. The site suits all certification levels in its shallower sections and provides a genuinely memorable large-fish experience at depths accessible to open-water divers.
