Giant morays reach up to 3 metres and are the apex ambush predators of the reef crevice system at Kisite, hunting by scent rather than sight and exhaling through a secondary jaw set when they swallow large prey. Their constant gaping is respiratory, not threatening — they pump water over their gills continuously. Kisite's morays are accustomed to divers and allow close observation from the resident cleaning stations where wrasse service their skin.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
