Moucha Island Reef
Gulf of Tadjoura · Djibouti
Moucha Island is the closest accessible dive destination to Djibouti City, a short boat ride across the Gulf of Tadjoura to a reef system that surprises visitors with its healthy coral and rich fish life. The reef wraps around the island in a series of shallow gardens and deeper slopes, the coral cover a mix of robust Porites boulders and delicate branching Acropora colonies that have survived the thermal challenges of the Gulf. Napoleon wrasse cruise the deeper sections with characteristic curiosity, and green sea turtles rest on sandy patches between dives. The protected bay on the western side is perfectly calm and ideal for diver training or a relaxed exploratory dive, while the exposed southern tip offers more surge and stronger fish aggregations.
