Seven Brothers Islands Wall
Gulf of Tadjoura · Djibouti
The Seven Brothers are a chain of volcanic islands at the mouth of the Gulf of Tadjoura where the Red Sea meets the Gulf of Aden, and the diving along their outer walls is some of the most dramatic and underexplored in the entire region. Strong currents sweep nutrient-rich water past near-vertical walls that plunge from the surface to beyond 50 m, the rock carpeted in massive sea fan colonies and encrusting corals of extraordinary diversity. Oceanic whitetip sharks and silky sharks are regularly encountered in the blue water beside the wall, and the upwellings that occur in the channel between islands bring whale sharks during certain months. This is serious deep water diving that demands experience and rewards with sightings that most divers never encounter elsewhere.
