Toucari Caves
Dominica Sperm Whale Coast · Dominica
Toucari Bay on Dominica's northwest coast holds a series of underwater lava tube caves and caverns that cut into the volcanic rock from 8 to 25 metres depth. The cavern mouths are wide enough for natural light penetration, making this a true cavern dive rather than a technical cave. Inside, glasseye snapper and soldierfish pack the ceilings in dense red shoals while Caribbean spiny lobsters crowd the back walls. The surrounding reef is one of the healthiest in Dominica, largely undived due to distance from main tourist centres, with elkhorn coral still present in the shallows — a species now critically endangered across most of the Caribbean.
